My Twitter archive of August 2018
In October 2022 I left Twitter. This is my tweet archive for August 2018.
Tweets
- Solved 1 problem. Got 10 new. #programmerlife https://t.co/D0DMo3OT0v
- "software that is *actively being used* by customers (a.k.a. users) in their *real jobs*" https://t.co/2X0qHANueN
- @flowchainsensei Thanks for the write-up. It's so easy for developers to look at the next thing to build / improve, because there is always a next best feature. Because then you are your own fast feedback-loop. But asking and/or observing customers in the wild? Super hard.
- @flowchainsensei No, I was not aware of this specific paper! I'm trying to establish the idea that all new features must have usage tracking as part of the rollout and revisited, so that we can also kill features and not only keep adding them.
- @gr2m OMG! This is fantastic! All tne the best for you all!
- Today we hiked up to #sjøasetervatnet, a lake 500m above #surnadalsfjorden. The hike up was intense because the track is only 4km long. But up there we had the lake to ourselves (and a few… https://t.co/xQtmnPhKLk
- @gr2m /me was too excited to type! 👶👶👶 https://t.co/CoRc71mkEP
- A friendly reminder: I reject connection requests on LinkedIn of people who I haven't met or otherwise had a meaningful exchange with. At least take the time to explain, why we should connect. If you want to ask me something there is an easier way: DM me on Twitter or email me.
- Drop SMS for 2FA: "we learned that SMS-based authentication is not nearly as secure as we would hope, and the main attack was via SMS intercept. We point this out to encourage everyone here to move to token-based 2FA." https://t.co/fQiO2lnvGh
- Very early working prototype! https://t.co/8cU7dKSMVg
- @benjamin @rradczewski @c089 @SoCraTes_Conf Hell yeah!
- This looks like a great tool for #remote teams. I love the time-boxing feature! https://t.co/RMoI7gVK3W https://t.co/TjtMBlCRSg
- These are cute laptop stickers from Søstrene Grense! https://t.co/V8OSi5OGNZ
- Great write-up of how engaged, self-directed and empowered developers will get stuff done without the constant look over their shoulder: "Stand-ups ENCOURAGE plans to change daily. Lack of consistency is a great way to ruin developer flow." https://t.co/WWBGDy2QIC
- @restrex I'll propose next week to give it a try. I previously had great success with pre-written meeting minutes, and @standupsHQ might be even better (since all videos are kept). If it would provide transcriptions automatically, it would be perfect! https://t.co/pBG59hfnUc
- Great post on Code Reviews: https://t.co/7Nxs0wV8yj HT to @SamirTalwar
- @codinghorror Lego Millennium Falcon?
- Simple and effective! https://t.co/Gnx1qQu8FA
- @wolframkriesing @typescriptlang No, since it always needs to inspect the whole codebase for useful error messages. If you have a lot of errors, start anywhere. It also helps to use an IDE which supports TS (it will should errors on the lines), which makes it easier to fix them.
- 🖖 https://t.co/XV9DYyZdQM
- I'm selling my reMarkable on ebay: https://t.co/z7JpN0t7vZ
- They do this: "Don’t be afraid if you haven’t spoken before, we’ll have speaker training to make sure you feel confident and well-rehearsed before the event. If accepted, we’ll reach out to you and ask if mentoring is something you’d like to have." 👏 https://t.co/32WX9N99rG
- Flights booked for @codefreeze_fi 2019! ❄️ ❄️ ❄️ https://t.co/PJE59JfRcU
- @wolframkriesing @typescriptlang You can write a type which defines your "interface". TS will then complain if your implementation does not match this type.
- @wolframkriesing @typescriptlang Example: https://t.co/S4Oaq8h2UI
- @kringkaste @codefreeze_fi Ja, sind alle hier: https://t.co/Vln5CyNNrS
- @kringkaste @codefreeze_fi Hier mein Blog-Post zur CodeFreeze: https://t.co/J1mQlJFgXt
- @ste5eu While it's a fantastic device to write on, the way it handles organizing documents is not effortless enough. The reMarkable feels laggy, mostly because the ePaper takes noticable time to update when navigating / organizing.
- @ste5eu It only supports black / white which really limits the ways to work on documents.
- We had this option using AWS, but since we are building a SaaS and wanted our users to have a free tier, we actually were not able to fully embrace one-tenant-per-account on AWS, because some services we require (e.g. Elasticsearch) have lower bounds of cost which are > 0. https://t.co/l1qj0HAWOD
- This means we would be spending money for every evaluating user, even if the did not use the service. It would have made our code and the permission management for AWS resources so much easier. If you can build your solution only using PaaS, it's really amazing.
- Have you done a (developer) happiness questionnaire, yet? https://t.co/ncMZM8815Z #futureofwork
- @maaretp Really awesome developer UX compared to Selenium or hacking your own using Chrome/puppeteer (I did that 😂).
- I blogged about versioning #JavaScript libraries with semantic-release https://t.co/WbLA0Nysvl 🐞 🚀 🚨 https://t.co/TSrp8od1t2
- A little reminder: For @NordicTweets' cloud services team working from Portland and #Trondheim 🇳🇴 we are looking for an experienced candidate who can lead the cloud solution development for #nrfcloud and other cloud-projects from day one on their own responsibility. https://t.co/R911lWrtml
- This requires substantial experience with building web-based applications on #AWS (especially #serverless services AND #IoT) and deploying and operating these services, as well as significant proficiency in #Nodejs, #TypeScript and #TDD in general. https://t.co/O2BwzyFRkT
- You will be working closely with both hardware designers and system architects as we develop and validate a highly scalable IoT infrastructure to enhance our products which are helping our customers make excellent products based on our system-on-chip products. #nrf9 #nrf5 https://t.co/u004BgdqQU
- My DMs are open if you have any question. The official job description is here: https://t.co/J60hvIUFof
- Mikrowellen in der @DB_Bahn, das wär's. https://t.co/zfnxkDCSns
- @datenreisender @DB_Bahn Ich dachte es gibt bei Amtrak Mikrowellen für Kunden, leider doch nicht. :-(
- @SlackHQ can I have an option to set a custom time for a follow-up reminder, plz? https://t.co/yMakW1sneg
- #Norway: "postdoc position in salmon hologenomics" https://t.co/HBAE5mBDiH
- @timothep from @papercall_io

- Good symbol for how huge the Chinese market is: https://t.co/pXbqOAGUig
- Don't buy @daskeyboard ... https://t.co/mZ1JkIDN1w
- @Lynoure And you teach your child a language that no other will understand.
- Currently writing a custom Gherkin runner which runs our integration tests and nicely shows interpolated steps, can skip if stuff fails, etc. #bdd https://t.co/7BeFVlSu6P
- I tried this with #Jest, but it expects all tests to be defined synchronously, which is a pain to implement, when test steps are constructed during runtime.
- This does not surprise me. Gaming has notoriously been a industry which is dominated by men who never "grow up", because everything is centered around competition, sexist content and publicity and they can earn money through cultivating primal instincts. https://t.co/tBF3HwJ9yg
- https://t.co/ApGjLs5irZ
- Put your shoes on the Internet! https://t.co/uvSttspyof
- https://t.co/PsGDtbsEoS is on repeat the second day now. Fantastic track! #trancefamily https://t.co/YQPPg48qFD

- @codePrincess https://t.co/bfEVWNq3UA
- Yeah, you morons @plivo, I am so important to you that you sent me spam. I've reported this as abuse to @MailChimp ... https://t.co/j1amA3zFSM
- In 20 years I have never met anybody working at a printer company, printer startup or somehow closely related to printers. I think that today's printer are just refurbished from last millennium's landfills. https://t.co/ACTJIFKyVJ

- @rotnroll666 Yeah, now the Norwegian summer is back to Normal. Tons of rain, and right now 10°C. ;-)
- @Ravetracer Schon Handkäse probiert? ;-D
- I receive significantly better applications for the role I am hiring for through Twitter and HackerNews. 👉 If you are hiring and your engineers are not spreading your job offers within their network, you are missing out big time.
- This is a great talk / lecture on what causes software to fail (and eventually kill people): https://t.co/8YXE931IaO
- I haven't been this excited to discover a band that takes stoner rock and turns it up to FUCKING ELEVEN! 🤟 @Bokassaband Very much looking forward to see them @Pstereo next week! #trondheimrocks 🇳🇴 https://t.co/9CFXb4AqHg
- @benjamin @Bokassaband @Pstereo Yeah, so many interesting bands!
- Why it's important to take rumors seriously: https://t.co/Fjz1bCnxsD
- Master your tools! https://t.co/RQlDdHWzmP
- A new colleague is starting tomorrow and I'm excited to explain him all the things we do at @NordicTweets. Which is a lot ;-) https://t.co/J5Nj93RQc6
- @johncutlefish Yes. I typically ask something in that area: "What is your greatest pain point right now?" This open question will lead to an interesting discussion.
- Maybe this is beeing a little too honest? https://t.co/ECypNYUaMJ
- @timothep I know that @biz4d is trying to do that, and also reach out to https://t.co/DTNZTxCmJD
- Finally: Cross-platform paths! https://t.co/FNb3KS2BQ7
- So ... cross. ;-) https://t.co/1e5eyEXEGP
- Why 16GB of RAM is a joke on a development machine: https://t.co/kMewDY21qX
- @PatrickHeneise @npmjs I have a `npm whoami` in my CI scripts so I have an easy way to verify that the right user is authenticated.
- @PatrickHeneise @npmjs This is how I do it: echo "//registry.npmjs.org/:_authToken=${NPM_TOKEN}" > ~/.npmrc
- @vessovit @miskaknapek ... Spotify.
- @PatrickHeneise Ugh, try AWS CodeBuild. It's nice (and has Node.js 8 support).
- Life smarts: https://t.co/LwRpCyOQ68
- @Ravetracer Unglaublich. Was für Idioten als Lehrer durchgehen.
- Will Smith is a fantastic story teller: https://t.co/rlIIkyFesF
- Here is another case for #distributed teams: by principle real-time collaboration is limited-and according to this study it is actually a good thing. #remote #futureofwork https://t.co/n15yMitMdL
- @AnnNat https://t.co/k6oPxYNZoz
- @Lynoure Portal!
- They have a track record of shitty behavior, sexism. https://t.co/rGWg1FnbE5
- Going to @SoCraTes_Conf and don't know anyone? Feel intimidated by all the strangers? I'm happy to be your @ConfBuddy to help you have a fantastic experience at #socrates2018 and make new friends! Join the #buddies channel in our Slack! https://t.co/IOHblVy0oB
- @benjamin @datenreisender @SoCraTes_Conf @ConfBuddy Yeah, you are right. I think we should use this one as the official @ConfBuddy GIF! @mirjam_diala https://t.co/dcp4FxUdSj
- @mirjam_diala @SoCraTes_Conf @ConfBuddy Because it is hands down the best developer conference in Europe. Right after @codefreeze_fi ;-)
- @benjamin #HandmaidsTale
- Cool new feature for CI/CD nerds like me: npm can now read tokens from the environment! https://t.co/OZFKNOjD5Z
- I talk to a human. https://t.co/3cCnIhCw7N
- Your #agile practice is a Dementor https://t.co/lr6iUvqEHe
- @mkhl Regarding https://t.co/MVG24kgp48, what is the name of the environment variable to pass the auth token to npm? I assumed it was npm_config_authtoken=... but this did not work.
- Oh, I got it: env 'npm_config_//registry.npmjs.org/:_authToken=00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000' npm publish
- Great and extensive resource on #paytospeak! And: Same! https://t.co/yPnqJAh6rd
- @Morl99 What are you doing to change that?
- If you like manifests, this is a good one: Beta is the organizational mindset that is fit for complex markets & fit for human beings. It is articulated through an indivisible set of 12 laws, or principles: The #BetaCodex. https://t.co/Zwj3JPA64r
- @gr2m @ShortcutLabs Have you seen https://t.co/7Id3D5OYmR ? You can use it to sniff BLE messages.
- Go's dependency management is getting an overhaul: https://t.co/InSpXuyz7y
- How is this a proper login website @GCPcloud?! Link from the "[Action Requested] Provide Contact Information details to support GDPR" email. This looks more than phishy, @Google. https://t.co/wVNndwN9du
- Moving to #Trondheim? Hire expat Mid-Norway! I blogged about my experience working with the #relocation agency expat Mid-Norway, which played a very important role why I accepted the offer from @NordicTweets in the first place: https://t.co/xLhGOOTJES https://t.co/jQKoSXMKNU
- @RitzmannMarkus Then something is wrong with the link in that email.
- New tool: https://t.co/nlCFHXz1jO

- 1-3 hrs <- not worth planning 1-3 days <- max story size 1-3 weeks <- good sprint length 1-3 months <- mission 1-3 quarters <- vision 1-3 years <- find a new business model 1-3 decades <- 😂 good luck https://t.co/4Af0XetRxz
- “What happens if we invest in developing our staff and they leave?” “What happens if we don’t, and they stay?” https://t.co/JZ38dkj2Cj
- I had a totally great idea for distributing stuff and separating concerns. The performance totally sucks. At least I now have one direction less to explore. #builditthreetimes
- @ConfBuddy @otterspencer Stay lean ... Done > Perfect!
- @mattsches @backlogtool GitHub projects: https://t.co/mZJWYaftev
- @powtac FB removed that feature recently: https://t.co/WMieuYWWiM
- Sociologists Examine Hackathons and See Exploitation: “From my perspective, they’re doing unpaid work for corporations.” https://t.co/71JnuG0vlf
- @Kiview This is an important difference: Is the entity which organizes the Hackathon a for-profit or a non-profit business.
- @danbar87 @a_socialpreneur Some variation of this model at least. It will be too expensive to discard an organization after every project. Value also lies in team building, knowledge from previous projects, etc. Everyone Culture shows a good balance: https://t.co/uG3adYfl9Z
- @danbar87 @a_socialpreneur Also companies like @menloinnovation (read Joy Inc! https://t.co/w8HDDFLOYG) or @MorningstarInc ( https://t.co/0SwHrvB7QN ) work around the concept of constantly re-arranging teams.
- @dmn1k @marcoemrich Both of that is mentioned in the article. The whole point was to get an outside perspective. Remember? A hamster wheel looks like a ladder from the inside.
- I'm so happy to be back @SoCraTes_Conf tomorrow! https://t.co/0N5H8BrHoX
- JFC #socrates2018 https://t.co/uBrpSzod1i
- We desperately need more non-sw people coming to our secret events and telling us about real world problems, not the ones we invent to our own enjoyment. https://t.co/0m04tzjhPs
- @c089 I just see hot and very hot? 🤔
- @ConfBuddy @mirjam_diala Quality of @stickermule is the best.
- @rinkkasatiainen Save travels ... See you in a bit!
- Good Morning! On my way to #socrates2018 https://t.co/qJlN7pXsK9
- Compatability or Compatibility?, in my head I always think it to be comp*i*tability - even worse. https://t.co/dt3ExoPFMC
- @Lynoure 🙊
- I do want to #encryptallthethings but I still need me some unencrypted websites so I can connect to the fucking airport WiFi like some neanderthal. https://t.co/EAwJhXlRyo
- @tOMPSON I use https://t.co/bxcv6pt1Mv - that's shorter and cute. 🔓🐰
- Just three more trainrides to #socrates2018 and one is a "null" - very fitting for going to a software conference. @DB_Bahn https://t.co/rwdDeOxuDI
- @JeroenDeDauw @DB_Bahn I'll probably arrive there at NaN o'clock.
- Welcome to Germany where it's still ok to advertise using stupid sexist gender stereotypes. https://t.co/f42KKvrO8w
- @tOMPSON Yeah, but it since it still serves non-https, this will be intercepted by the airport WiFi access software and Chrome show the login portal.
- @Lynoure Da haben sie recht. [To add some extra trickery because of German capitalization]
- @rradczewski @c089 You seem to adopt the @codefreeze_fi model: it happens when it happens, but let's give it a week for a lot to happen!
- It should not be possible to replace an entry in the browser history which belongs to another domain. But, creative use of browser APIs. https://t.co/wIPxj4heYa
- If you think that you will have better code at your next job, look at this HUGE HN thread on how many people dealt with shockingly bad codebases: https://t.co/QcLpydgr3T
- @Ravetracer Don't worry! I have put so much half-assed shit in GitHub and nobody cared.
- @mirjam_diala Shorts + Hardshell. The Norwegian combo! https://t.co/Gmk9xWV040
- @rinkkasatiainen @DB_Bahn Cool! I am on shedule.
- We have opened the first session room: Crafters On The Bench #socrates2018 https://t.co/798bNloGWL

- No @SoCraTes_Conf is complete without this session: #socrates2018 https://t.co/TbYqBqDSad
- It will obviously be followed by a very spontaneously announced Emacs session.
- Already 50+ sessions and they keep coming 😍 #socrates2018 https://t.co/wdp3dDzZL4
- So great to see that many parents and their kids here @SoCraTes_Conf sessions. Parents are part of our teams, so we need to enable them to attend our conferences, too! #socrates2018 https://t.co/f1FXwSzaDm
- One of the reasons I ♥️ @SoCraTes_Conf: There are rarely any sessions that use slides. PowerPoint encourages listening. Flipcharts encourage collaboration! #socrates2018 https://t.co/vtxNn0A6LX

- In the #sanctuaryjs session with @rinkkasatiainen: #SoCraTes2018 https://t.co/rgxd4IWRTr
- @wolframkriesing I have not seen this yet. One approach that could work: define your types and use the TypeScript compiler API to generate JS code from the types.
- @wolframkriesing Take this generated code and compare it to your existing code. But somehow ignore implementation, only compare "calls". https://t.co/YR2oFgQV8K This seems hard.
- Closing of the open-space. #socrates2018 was fantastic. And we are still not done, yet ;-) https://t.co/iZL4py5GNd

- @Ravetracer @SoCraTes_Conf Absolut! Das wäre echt toll dich hier zu haben.
- Hey 👋 ! We just updated the @codefreeze_fi website: https://t.co/nmUTlBtN9f - it's like @SoCraTes_Conf in Soltau, but with more sauna and snow! ❄️❄️❄️❄️ Sat Jan 5th - Sat 12th 2019 Kiilopää, Finland #socrates2018
- @jnardiello Yes! We had kids around in the previous years.
- Hey @DB_Bahn my Finnish friend @rinkkasatiainen cannot buy a ticket in DB Navigator because he cannot enter his home address in Finland since the Country is not available for selecting when entering the address during booking.
- Leaving #socrates2018 with a head full of ideas and great memories. https://t.co/tzFtwTfMPz
- @jason_peper @c089 @SoCraTes_Conf Thank you for your fantastic work! 👏
- I now have seen people come to @SoCraTes_Conf first to improve their technical skill. As they transition to more senior roles they still come back to learn about social skills. I love that we as a community can provide this holistic approach to becoming a better human in tech.

- My state after #socrates2018: it's this bitter sweet feeling between sadness, tiredness, enthusiasm and thankfulness. I have so many thoughts I want structure and persist to a document, but they are just too many and so many are interconnected.
- But I know that it's not only about getting it out. And my brain will take them and slowly dissolve and remix them of the next days so I will be able to come back to them and benefit of what I experienced nevertheless.
- I have been struggling with finding a mentor for the last years I met hundreds this weekend @SoCraTes_Conf. Thank you #socrates2018.
- @mkhl @alvarobiz These is the best kind of feedback I want to hear: it's completely based on what I did without any relation to who I am.
