In October 2022 I left Twitter. This is my tweet archive for June 2021.
Tweets
- @_francied Take a break! 💙 https://t.co/4zX3ntTgaI
- @5422m4n I mean, people who use CDs probably still need 10 year old tools.
- @aklefdal The plight.
- Why limit your employees to work from a few locations? @ReaktorNow now has an office the size of Finland: https://t.co/q4EfQhmk2b #job #remote
- How do you measure impact, of you ship donated items? 👇🏻 https://t.co/QqSqaNObe2
- June 8-10 is @ZephyrIoT developer summit, free and online: https://t.co/Z8y57X6cIC #embedded https://t.co/3TgIrxwDks
- Blocked for addressing embedded developers as "guys". https://t.co/gfcLruDmAp
- @Lynoure Yes. The embedded development industry is a diversity nightmare.
- @jverhoelen Feel free to try. 🤞🏻
- Woot! New stuff to try out for the 🐈📍. https://t.co/wZ0qDRPeVf
- @mmt_lvt @Lynoure Guys is not gender-neutral. https://t.co/T09aMuswss
- @mmt_lvt @Lynoure It's my argument and it is valid. You are invited to present your factual argument that guys is gender neutral instead of dismissing mine.
- Great chat by @jaredwolff and @virgilvox about the #nRF9160 feather, and how @ZephyrIoT simplifies building even complex embedded projects. https://t.co/9M1lnV8RP3
- @annwitbrock The intention is not important, what matters is how it is received.
- @annwitbrock I don't get how someone with an intention to achieve inclusion, can use "Hey guys!" to address everyone with a straight face.
- I'm now reaching a point where I need a solution to share logfiles from devices with colleagues in a convenient way, one that allows stream live logs, but also organise sessions using tagging, naming. Does that exist? https://t.co/MSrnUlhU7V
- @leastpossible Hm, looks interesting, seems a little too much focused on support cases. I'd prefer something more lightweight.
- @johnjonesname @RealIvanSanchez What do you use as destination that allows to easily and secretly share a log session?
- @RealIvanSanchez @johnjonesname That solves the "secret" part. But SSH is not convenient (and for me overkill). And it's not easy to separate these logs into session by device type, firmware version, etc. Ideally it's a secret URL (like a Gist), but with streaming capabilities.
- @RealIvanSanchez @johnjonesname Just my perspective on the tooling. Asking all my team members to set up SSH authentication is not an option for me. I should have clarified what I think convenient is: access using a web-browser.
- @RealIvanSanchez @johnjonesname I did not say that.
- Johnny 5 is alive! https://t.co/Qy6lnv2dhh
- @raae https://t.co/5pnoBXwpiP ... or if you love YAML: https://t.co/Dyrb9Xrvh4
- @johnjonesname Interesting, thanks!
- @5422m4n But how do you share a log session?
- @5422m4n I have multiple devices / firmware version / bugs that I am debugging, so for a specific combination of those I want to be able to collect and share the logs.
- @AndyScherzinger It's 5 years old, and I have no experience with the newer ones. However reviews were generally very good, and OLED looks great: https://t.co/TMxgYpeSfp So I'd pick that with 32 GB RAM and i7. https://t.co/E9g7gxM7Nr
- @serapath Does that work for continuously appended streams as well?
- It's amazing how much shit can be put in one single tweet. https://t.co/vnYnG3G8RD
- @byteborg And how do you share sessions of logs with others?
- @ulfkar Those are @NordicTweets Thingy:91s: https://t.co/oRpnCmfyW6 and they run one of the applications from our SDK: https://t.co/2Ik0lcpwFr
- 61 developers are now millionaires because StackOverflow was sold, and people will use this as a great example to push the "equity instead of cash" agenda. Consider for a second how many developers you know *personally* that got this lucky.
- And if you consider taking equity instead of cash consider if everyone in your company has the privilege of being able to exchange money today for a slim bet on future income that very often can be voided unilaterally.
- @nota_bennett ... nobody knows when tech work is complete.
- @malk_zameth OMG https://t.co/kFiiKYFTxF
- @PatrickHeneise https://t.co/O1vMGanMIx
- If your device only supports coin cell batteries, but you still want to do power measuring using the @NordicTweets Power Profiler Kit II @aconno_GmbH has a neat solution for you: a coin-cell adapter. https://t.co/CqCz1wZAC8 https://t.co/Yl3Rj3W3bz
- I hope to get the opportunity to use this, sometime soon. https://t.co/rW912jr7hW
- @Darcie @AmelieCornelis Do you know @raphaelfyi?
- @TonyBologni No, but another similar-minded developer.
- ... also featuring the @NordicTweets Power Profiler Kit II: https://t.co/O97zCVcnwf
- Finding new bugs is one of my skills! 🙋🏻♂️ https://t.co/iDAYSrAsKK
- It's the perfect weather to do some outdoor testing: https://t.co/ARdItKddVd
- @LobaroHH I'd definitely would try it, although it sounds like it's missing the persistence so logs can be shared later.
- True. https://t.co/eRQtnIHnKY
- "One last question ..." is never one.
- Hei friends! I am attending @SoCraTes_UK and I miss having breakfast with other people who share my passion about software... #SoCraTesUK https://t.co/rh5y7hJUdM
- @Maaikees Don't they have these regular doors at the side of them, which nobody notices?
- @terabaud Herrje.
- @Maaikees https://t.co/IHRxCLS9sA
- We have a full schedule ahead! #SoCraTesUK https://t.co/2DuAYXMPY8
- First session: #OKRs - Share Your Learnings at #SoCraTesUK. Looking forward to discuss since I feel this is a often misused tool and it's great to hear about other experiences with them.
- If you are not aware of them: https://t.co/Ok3J648nEb In my experience the problem is not the definition itself, but finding good OKRs.
- I also see them as a good framework to discuss one's purpose in the organization and what you are contributing, even if you leave out the measurement part.
- But it's important to realize that some (even critical) functions in an organization cannot be measured.
- Interesting book recommendation from @branaby: https://t.co/99v57F3W1G
- It seems like we exclusively have issues with measuring results. And the literature makes this look way too easy. As a profession we could research more and get a better understanding of if that part of OKRs is more harmful.
- @branaby Bought ... looking forward to this.
- Session notes: https://t.co/KzQOsOcu2v
- Second #SoCraTesUK session was one I held (so not much summary here, sorry): Better way for documenting Architecture visually (what about the glue?). Notes: https://t.co/gpDkPsBpYF
- Now in the #SoCraTesUK session with the world's best kata facilitator @malk_zameth, and practicing my architecture diagramming skills on the FizzBuzz kata. I tried two variants. https://t.co/qP6mGlmb8k
- Changed the style a little with the Roman Numerals kata: https://t.co/tCJ8dJHIms
- Now doing some session hopping at #SoCraTesUK, first looking into how to TDD "simple" problems, now in @ezagroba session career options for experts. Both are fascinating, open exchanges.
- Now in the #SoCraTesUK session about trunk vs feature branch development.
- First, going over the basics: https://t.co/oa0Vd17gny explains it very well.
- It seems like everyone in the session is onboard with trunk-based-development already.
- Confidence for TBD can also come from good monitoring.
- @Lazer Wasp nest, don't remove yourself, they are a protected species.
- @Lazer It seems Sweden, again, is different: https://t.co/Oeu07oYHti (see sektion later in article, "Anticimex tips på hur du getingsäkrar runt ditt hus:")
- IMO, feature flags are an antipattern with TBD and mean that you don't make your changes small enough.
- Now moving on to code reviews, and this seems to be required reading: https://t.co/E6Gw6tCo48
- Interesting discussion at #SoCraTesUK now about what "passion" in software craft means, for us, for employers. Is it, when used in job ads, a codified request to work overtime?
- As an industry we should normalize it more that you can deliver great value as a software developer, without being passionate. Ask yourself, if you ask for it, what do you associate with that term?
- Such a beautiful framing from Heloá in the session: I am not a software developer. I work as a software developer.
- We now have shifted to the topic of #loyality. How much of it does an employer deserve?
- Can't watch this with a straight face ... https://t.co/VVU8kuw3gU
- #SoCraTesUK was fantastic again, big thanks to everyone who made it happen! 💯🌟
- #Thingy91 accelerometer testing ... 🤘🏻 https://t.co/Xj0vGV0Qjq
- So awesome that we had participants from Uganda! That's the magic of #remote open-spaces. https://t.co/TKFLYV2VlA

- @anotherday____ I think the point here is that we need to make sure to create an environment where others feel encouraged to ask questions and that it's "worth" our time. That means more than offering help in a general way.
- It might not be obvious to every developer: you can verify emails by sending an email to them. https://t.co/yvhs1u4fAI

- 🐳
- @Maggysche Sounds like a daylight savings time bug...
- @Maggysche Why did I even assume it was digital...
- @pati_gallardo Yes. It's part two of the interview, after the first call. It's just too undefined what "experience in <insert language>" means, so tech test is important to gauge how much training would be needed.
- Works with the #nRF9160, at least that's what it says on the box. https://t.co/AOu0hTsyoA https://t.co/NMCG6vDBqp
- Gaza: A Hell on Earth https://t.co/RC7SYCSxPq
- We ran out of espresso the day before yesterday, that was a HUGE mistake. The caffeine withdrawal symptoms are like a hangover that gets worse over the course of the day.
- @garstenko Started the morning without headaches, but still have this lingering tingling sensation like with a alcohol hangover...
- The summer students are starting this week and their hardware arrived! 😱 https://t.co/GqAbJePiDm
- @fdeberle I guess in the past I've compensated with CocaCola, or energy drinks. But I got rid of those a while ago... First time for me!
- Problem solved. https://t.co/MEGCBYoEva
- #Trondheim #nofilter ☀️ https://t.co/0GuKPcorMd
- @Markus306 I'd say it's definitely a rather smooth and nutty aroma, and not notably fruity like other espressos. It's my favourite roast.
- @pati_gallardo https://t.co/XyX9EMkCK5
- @garstenko Er war so gut!
- @RidingWolf Since you are really struggling with heat, I think installing a proper AC unit is in order...
- @RidingWolf Yeah, you need one of those split units. Everything else is crap.
- I think especially the German way to work requires to prove yourself. You only will be able to work on projects that are challenging after doing way too simple assignments. That makes it hard to show what you are capable of doing in the first place. #catch22 https://t.co/WFkyrkte2S
- @byteborg @NativeWired @kkklawitter However, I really like the example that you need a helmet when going to a battle. I used to drive daily in Frankfurt, and there it is like one.
- @FriendlyTester 120+ employees wrote to the founders to fix their abusive culture: https://t.co/7Ut7SnUASr
- @FriendlyTester *former employees*
- @Lazer Norway is nice, too...
- @pati_gallardo Sounds like @SINTEF could be a match: https://t.co/nanPAoVBsv And we have quite some hardware startups in #Trondheim, that are looking for new hires. Check out @NTNU bridge: https://t.co/CUU0SxBu5W
- @Jen_BMJ So sorry for you. 🥺
- @ClareSudbery GitHub Actions plus @Netlify. I can provide a sample repo, if interested.
- @ClareSudbery @Netlify How is the web app written?
- @ClareSudbery @Netlify Sure. Here is an example React app: https://t.co/fZ4e6fpMza It has tests for plain JS libraries and React components. Tests are run using GitHub actions. On success, deployed to Netlify. PRs are tested and deployed to preview URLs.
- Verstehe ich nicht. https://t.co/ByUEsEfNm7

- A cooking recipe. https://t.co/SsUE9kXH01
- @pati_gallardo I do this to lift everyone's sprits. I. The face of challenging situation it helps to get everyone's mind off the issue for a second, and also make clear that no life is at stake. It gives some space to take a short break and consider all options.
- @pati_gallardo I learned this as a track and field coach for small kids, and in the military as well: it's important to follow rules and regulations (e.g. for safety reasons). But, noone has the capacity to be point 100% of the time: Slack-space is important to build connections, and trust.
- @autiomaa Could be, buy right now I'm mostly exploring new vegan dishes.
- @pati_gallardo That tweet belongs in the Louvre of tech Twitter.
- WiFi password https://t.co/rCXW07Hc6V
- I attended the 24 hour liquid ensemble programming for a while and IMHO it served well to show people how ensemble programming works, and what tools and techniques exist to facilitate ensemble programming.
- However having people work on a codebase they don't know, in a language they have no experience with, and people hopping on and off dilutes the perceived usefulness of this technique. I hope people try this with their own codebase again.
- Thanks to @alterisian and @CuriousAgilist for setting this up!
- @Lazer Have you checked the contacts that connect to the battery? Over time those can get bend and lose connection. Bending the slightly towards the battery contacts can sometimes help.
- We are at that level of plant based milk in our household where we can find the best combination for each coffee roast we have... https://t.co/I8PqiHt3sr
- @autiomaa We got it from the previous owner. It's an 3 cm oak plank which is oiled. So far the best surface I had in a kitchen.
- @leastpossible Not my favorite for Latte Macchiato, a little bit to "planty" taste when heated up. But good alternative for use with Müsli! My favorite for Latte is the Gryr one (from a huge Norwegian milk producer, Tine).
- TIL: UK used a "towel move" on ISO 3166. https://t.co/oNZLfcW1Dt https://t.co/JUizYz3AEW
- @branaby @alterisian @borderless_dev @CuriousAgilist Sorry to hear that. The decision to use the @DistributeAid code base was made on such short notice for me that I couldn't block out more time for the event. I, too, think there should be people available who are familiar with the project.
- @_francied I'd say no. The majority might have heard about it, but mostly know nothing about how the absence of that privilege manifests.
- @pati_gallardo https://t.co/W6QABd6szi
- Meet Hera, the Finnish Lapphund belonging to our neighbors, intensively watching a crow. https://t.co/iCA03vCtgW
- @spazierendenken @malagaworkbay @PTAMalaga @davidpich could maybe recommend one.
- @nelisboucke Most vulns are in development dependencies, not client runtime dependencies. The problem is the noise and it's hard to distinguish those from the real ones.
- @_francied I have a blog post in the making exactly about that.

- TIL from a Norwegian colleague when talking about my difficulties with using the right pronouns: Norwegian has a gender neutral pronoun: "hen". https://t.co/QDARXldz9e Which stems from the Finnish "hän". https://t.co/u1jEH6EiOt https://t.co/x1tR89nEnI

- My father discovered that there are controllers for model trains that use Nordic chips. https://t.co/4IFrhnZSSx
- My father used to work in the automotive industry, so I would naturally have used the products he was involved in. He was by the way in testing / quality. Now he uses stuff that I am remotely involved in. Amazing.
- ensemble > mob
- Achievement of the day was refactoring a CI pipeline for running end-to-end tests on real hardware. It's brainmeltingly complicated to get everything line up. But the green lights at the end of the test run mean so much. https://t.co/HVuHi14RF2
- El Salvador just tapped a real volcano to provide the power needed for Bitcoin. Sounds like a ridiculous solution to provide banking to its citizens. https://t.co/vtaInCF2lQ
- @maaretp All the best for you, Maaret! Have a fantastic day! 🥳
- @Maggysche It's not a breach of privacy if you have a talk with them about it before it happens. And regardless, as a parent, you are allowed to do that.
- @Maggysche I think it's very awesome that you offered and went through the hassle and pain of reading the messages. A 12 year old is too young to understand what's going on.
- Oh, Yammer still exists?
- I hope they fixed this bug since then: https://t.co/EjCwNPVFai
- @ASpittel Also, weather, seasons.
- @arnarfjodur @ASpittel They'll blame their failure on the markets inability to absorb a million tomatoes at once, despite them being put on the Blockchain.
- @malk_zameth There is a system for that, it's called bank account.
- @_francied Yes, @rinkkasatiainen does that.
- No shit, I have a windowed cupboard under my desk for that. https://t.co/KNjaTaqoYt
- @Lazer "Please come back in 15 years."
- @Wechange_alot @ZukunftZwei
- @spazierendenken Most Death Metal fits that.
- First week with three students, and I only messed up once. 😅
- @yoyehudi @borderless_dev not sure what your plans are this summer... ☝️🏻
- Beatboxing TOOL?! https://t.co/5pQEVthSiT

- @siljel Nei.
- Good to see that more companies see #remote as an opportunity to deliver innovative solutions to their customers, like @zuehlke_group does: https://t.co/FOI5N8Y7a3 #jobs
- If you were to be provided with a react web application (for managing IoT devices) and asked to be re-using some or all components, which CSS framework would you prefer to be used for styling?
- @raphaelfyi But this app has many form fields, so a CSS framework would provide a convenient way to style them. I am also think about separating the styling from the logic more, so one could re-use the logic with custom components. https://t.co/1HNYBQ0LBd
- 🤢 https://t.co/nXCUidGyJd
- @phaus @raphaelfyi So you would prefer web components in a React app? Do you have an example how that looks like?
- Nothing like two F-35 doing flyovers to greet the close by pilot school. #Trondheim 🇳🇴 https://t.co/LvF19JHs56
- Isn't tailwind just all style property and value combinations turned into a million CSS classes? I don't get why this became so popular.
- @terabaud Yeah, and I've been there. So why? https://t.co/04wwox4SjO
- @raphaelfyi But you could have used style attributes instead, or not?
- @stadolf @chakra_ui Interesting, looks like the Tailwind approach applied to React.
- @raphaelfyi Yes, if you have some with many forms.
- @m4nl5r Yeah, limited to React. There is no design at all, so that's why I picked Bootstrap for now. Makes for a decent UI without much hassle.
- @atyborska93 Thank you, really helpful to get your insights.
- @arnarfjodur CSD means?
- @aniawsz @spazierendenken @toggleModal does.
- @arnarfjodur Ok, yes. And it absolutely makes sense that it's coupled, because it's meant to be used that way. No wonder abstraction efforts mostly fail.
- @nachtfunke At least they are honest about that on the start page. https://t.co/eHGcIcRDqN
- Really no consensus in there, so render props it is, and I'll check out https://t.co/4GH1MgilmG instead of waiting for Reacstrap for Bootstrap v5. https://t.co/QTwwBe7PWa
- @miskaknapek Not good. My vaccination is still weeks away, estimated for end of July.
- My father's collection of tools. Because he already has them all. https://t.co/Uky56mlMJA
- @borderless_dev I've never used it, so can you double check that?
- @meikeco Zumindest die Heizung ist seit einer Woche wieder an...
- @meikeco Ich wollte weiter kurze Hosen tragen!
- I get it now. Tailwind is the no-code of CSS.
- @pati_gallardo You don't know what they have offered to shut up!
- @pati_gallardo Same for us, but with a camping place attached so there is something to do away from the keyboard. https://t.co/1zhevXWZsJ
- @c089 This toxic white tech bro mentality "I don't care if he is a racist, misogynistic asshole, as long as he helps me." is really terrifying.
- @pati_gallardo It needs to have fiber, and then the first order of business is to set up fast WiFi everywhere.
- @charlesspray Thank you for writing this down. I wasn't aware of the "compile to semantic CSS" feature.
- @iceMagic @pati_gallardo Not yet. But not really needed. Most places have access to broadband (either cable or via mobile broadband).
- @pati_gallardo https://t.co/8qEVT0gKD1
- An oldie, but still banging: https://t.co/C8Sj1wXxLB
- @pati_gallardo I guess because he himself does not really have one.
- @pati_gallardo Yes. :/ I think he is just happy that someone is listening to him.

- I do miss whiteboards... First day back in the office yesterday I made this drawing while explaining serverless concepts on AWS, and how they tie in with IoT. https://t.co/oSFeda2XBy
- @nelisboucke If remote, camera plus whiteboards works very well, but I don't have that setup at home ...

- @TonyBologni @ObedParla @XBowstech Yes, I switched to US layout around two years ago.
- @Lazer So cute!
- Have been wrestling with some Jest tests in this PR for a few days: https://t.co/Dlvkf2xonP Jest's way to set up test synchronously makes it really hard to use it with data that is created async (in this case database entries).
- @pati_gallardo https://t.co/hxw0d4YnuN is the port that was used to run on Nordic's embedded devices: https://t.co/2miGpCmUjt
